Connect a printer

Add an AirPrint printer to this iPad's fleet, and check it is reachable.

Fotova prints over AirPrint, so any printer the iPad can see on the same Wi-Fi network can join your fleet. The printer does not need an app or a driver — if iOS can find it, Fotova can use it.

Add a printer

  1. Put the printer and the iPad on the same Wi-Fi network. A guest network that isolates devices from each other will hide the printer even though both are online.
  2. Open SettingsThis devicePrint fleet. Printers found on the network appear in the list.
  3. Turn the printer’s toggle on to add it to the fleet. Prints route only to printers that are switched on here.

Each printer shows its own status line: ready on the network, or not found on the network right now, which means prints will fail until it is back.

If the printer does not appear

  • Check it is on the same network, not a second SSID from the same router. 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz bands are usually fine together; separate guest networks usually are not.
  • Confirm AirPrint is enabled on the printer. Some models call it “wireless printing” or hide it behind a setup app.
  • USB-only printers will never appear here, however they are connected. See USB-only printers.

Give each printer a name you will recognize

Worth doing before an event, especially with more than one printer. iOS shows a trust prompt when two printers share a name, and identical models ship with identical default names — so a fleet of two of the same printer is exactly the case that triggers it. Renaming them in the printer’s own settings (usually its web page at its IP address) avoids it entirely.
